At Bella Dental, the most common piece of guidance we give is to brush your teeth two times daily for two minutes per session. (You probably wouldn’t have guessed that, would you?) Because we’re continually reminding our patients to brush their teeth, we also get a fair number of questions about the correct way to brush teeth. Here are a few of the inquiries we get most often:

Which toothpaste brand should I use?
The right toothpaste is the one that you’ll actually utilize. Ultimately, that’s a partiality. However, there are some differentiators between toothpastes. You should always look for the ADA seal of approval on the packaging; this means the ADA has tested the product with the seal on it and that it’s one you can safely trust. There are also toothpastes that fight specific conditions such as gum disease and tooth sensitivity. Find the toothpaste brand that works greatest for you and makes it most likely that you’ll stick to a healthy brushing routine!

How imperative is the brand of toothbrush that I utilize?
The mission of tooth-brushing is to eliminate plaque, bacteria and food remnants from your oral cavity, so the toothbrush which does that best for you should be your pick. Always utilize a soft-bristled toothbrush since they brush the gaps between teeth without harming gums. Additionally, consider using a smaller-headed toothbrush since larger ones may be more difficult to move inside of your mouth.

Do I need an electric toothbrush?
Electric toothbrushes are great choices for many because the motorized brushing functionality can clean teeth extra successfully. Another advantage of electric brushes is that most of them brush to a timer, so you can be sure you’re putting in your complete brushing time! You should consider an electric toothbrush if either of these advantages sounds good to you or if you have limited dexterity.

When perform I need to replace my toothbrush?
You should be replacing your toothbrush or toothbrush head as soon as it shows wear. For most of us, this is about once a season. Periodontal disease is no laughing matter, so don’t forget to throw away your brush when it gets old. Don’t worry, all brushes go to heaven!

If you have any more questions about brushing your teeth, please come see Dr. Roderick S. Cooper and the staff at Bella Dental in Tucker, Georgia. You may call us at 770-921-9000 to schedule your next appointment now.
