Did you know that saliva plays a crucial role in your oral health care by working to neutralize harmful acids and rinsing away plaque buildup? Yes, it’s true! Thus, it is essential to make sure you have saliva production in your mouth. To assist with saliva production, consider chewing gum after meals.

In order to protect your smile, always looking for new ways to keep your smile safe. This includes brushing your teeth whenever possible. In addition, keeping your mouth clean from harmful acids due to foods will be necessary. However, your teeth are vulnerable after eating, so brushing directly after a meal is not advisable, so alternative cleaning tools will be needed. One highly effective treatment to consider is chewing sugarless gum.

By chewing sugarless gum for a period of roughly 20 minutes after meals, you can effectively help treat and prevent the risks of harmful acids. This is because sugarless gum will help form saliva, which is a natural substance in your body. Saliva is exceptionally effective for neutralizing acids, washing away food and other debris, and providing disease-fighting properties for your smile.

Chewing sugarless gum has also been proven to help promote the formation of saliva to help treat and prevent heartburn. Heartburn arises when stomach acids travel up through your esophagus and into your mouth. When these acids reach your teeth, dental erosion can occur. The saliva will be needed to help neutralize the acids and wash them away to protect your teeth and gums.

Taking great care of your teeth and gums is more than merely brushing your teeth. Once you get in the habit of two minutes, twice a day, there are more things you can do to benefit your smile. Here are a few to get you started:

Floss: Flossing is a great partner to brushing, and should be done once a day for 2-3 minutes. This will remove food particles and debris from in between your teeth. If conventional floss is difficult for you, talk to Dr. Roderick S. Cooper about other approved interdental cleaning options, such as water flossers, or floss for sensitive gums.

Eat Well: Make it easier to clean your mouth by giving it good tooth-healthy fuel in the first place! Choose nutrient-dense whole foods, with lots of protein, calcium, phosphorous, and vitamins. Avoid frequently eating foods with a lot of sugar or acid, as that could be damaging to your teeth.

Chew Gum: To help prevent cavities, chew sugar-free gum after eating, for 20 minutes. This stimulates saliva production, thus helping to clean teeth and neutralize damaging acids in teeth. Saliva also delivers fortifying substances to the mouth, strengthening tooth enamel.

Mouthwash: Mouthwash may be a good addition to your oral hygiene routine. Therapeutic mouthwash, available over-the-counter, helps by killing bacteria and washing away food particles and other debris in the mouth. (Cosmetic mouthwashes, however, only freshen breath temporarily and should be avoided.) Read the warning labels, and never give mouthwash to children under 6.

Of course, you should shore up your at-home habits with visits to the dentist 2 times a year. This helps keep teeth clean, and helps catch any problems early. This can help avoid major dental emergencies. If you are in the Tucker, Georgia area, be sure to call Bella Dental to set an appointment! Dr. Roderick S. Cooper and our team will be happy to help you!

Are your teeth damaged and in need of a dental bonding treatment? Dental bonding refers to cosmetic alterations to your teeth designed to change its color and shape. Although dental bonding is typically used for a variety of oral needs, it is most commonly used for dental chipping.

Dental bonding is a cosmetic tooth restoration treatment designed to improve your oral health care by repairing damage to your teeth which can be produced by a wide variety of sources. Your teeth can be damaged by oral accidents or injuries, plaque buildup, poor oral hygiene, tooth enamel loss, and various other dental disasters.

Dental bonding is not only used in restoring the functionality of a tooth, but it can also improve a tooth’s appearance. If a tooth is visually damaged as the result of stains, discolorations, or feature other visual flaws, it may be possible to correct them with the use of dental bonding. Dental bonding can also be used to help with spacing issues, minor malocclusions, and even dental filling repair for cavities.

Some teeth cannot be saved, but implants can be used in their place. With dental implants, you can have natural-looking implants attached directly to your jawbone for a sturdy hold. A complete smile awaits with dental implants and their many astonishing benefits:

– Dental implants are superbly durable and can potentially last for the rest of your life.

– Dental implants can rebuild a facial structure that has been damaged due to lost or missing teeth, which often results in your face appearing much more sunken in, weaker, and older looking.

– Dental implants can be crafted and altered to fit comfortably in the spaces left behind by missing teeth.

– When your implants are attached to your jawbone, a process called Osseointegration takes place in which the bone will grow stronger and healthier and will come to support the implant better.

– Dentures can shift around inside your mouth, and can often come loose when tough or chewy food such a steak is consumed. However, dental implants will stay securely in place in nearly any circumstance, allowing you to eat any foods you desire.

If you would like to set up an appointment to discuss your possible implant treatment with Dr. Roderick S. Cooper and our team at Bella Dental, please call 770-921-9000 to set up a visit to our dentist office in Tucker, Georgia. Get the smile you’ve always dreamed of with dental implants.
